# Set up SMS

> Connect and test an SMS provider, choose a primary sender, and configure delivery rules.

Use **SMS** settings to connect a texting provider for members who do not use the app. You can choose a primary provider and, if you have another verified provider, a fallback.

## Before you start

You need SMS configuration access and an account with an SMS provider. Get provider credentials, sender details, and any callback requirements from that provider. Enter secrets only in the Faithloft password fields. If the settings are unavailable or read-only, contact your church administrator.

Faithloft lists Africa's Talking, Twilio, Vonage, Infobip, and Termii. The fields vary by provider:

* **Africa’s Talking** asks for **Username**, **Environment**, an optional **Sender ID**, and **API key**.
* **Twilio** asks for **Account SID**, **Auth Token**, **Sender type**, and either a **From phone number** or **Messaging Service SID**.
* **Vonage** asks for **API key**, **API secret**, and **Sender**.
* **Infobip** asks for **API key**, **Base URL**, and **Sender**.
* **Termii** asks for **API key**, **Webhook signing secret**, **Base URL**, **Sender**, and **SMS route**. The DND route requires activation with Termii.

## Connect and verify a provider

1. Open **Settings** > **Integrations** > **SMS**.
2. Select a provider under **Providers**.
3. Fill in the fields shown for that provider, then select **Connect \[provider]**. For an existing connection, select **Save changes**.
4. Under **Send a test**, enter a **Phone number** you can check and a short **Message**. Select **Send test SMS**. Faithloft includes the STOP opt-out instruction and shows the estimated segment count.
5. After the test succeeds, select **Make primary** to use this provider for church SMS. If a primary provider is already set and another verified provider is available, you can choose **Set as fallback**.
6. If callback URLs are displayed, copy them into the provider dashboard wherever it asks for delivery-status or incoming-message callbacks. Incoming-message callbacks are needed to receive replies such as STOP.

The primary sender card shows the selected provider and sender. If the primary provider fails and a fallback is set, Faithloft can route through that fallback.

## Configure SMS sending rules

**Honour STOP replies** is always on. A member who replies STOP is opted out of church SMS automatically. If your provider supports two-way messages, configure the incoming-message callback so Faithloft can receive the reply.

You can enable **Quiet hours** to hold SMS between 9pm and 7am in the selected local timezone. Enter the church's IANA timezone under **Quiet-hours timezone**, then select **Save timezone**.

To stop using a provider, select **Disconnect**. This removes its saved credentials. If it was the primary sender, the fallback is promoted when one is available; members' SMS preferences stay in place.

After SMS is connected, select it in [Messages](/portal/messages). Members who opted out or do not have an eligible phone number are not sent an SMS.
