# Manage members

> Find church member accounts, invite people, import a roster, and update member details and access.

Use **Members** to find and manage church member accounts. The church-wide **Role** shown here is separate from a person's role in a specific department. To manage a department roster, open that department's **Members** tab; see [Manage departments](/portal/manage-departments#manage-department-membership).

## Find a member

1. Open **Members**.
2. Enter a name or email in **Search members**.
3. Choose **All**, **Active**, **Invited**, or **Suspended** to filter by account status.
4. Select a row to open the member profile. Use **Refresh** to reload the list and the page controls to move through more results.

The list shows each member's name, email, church-wide role, status, and **Last active** date.

## Invite a member

1. Select **Invite member**.
2. Enter the person's **Email** and **Name**.
3. Optionally choose a **Role** if role assignment is available to you. You can send the invitation without assigning a role.
4. Select **Invite member**.

The person receives an email to set a password and join. Their account appears with **Invited** status until they accept. If the invite is still pending, use **Resend invite** from the member's actions menu.

## Import members from a CSV file

Use **Import CSV** for a list of people. The file must be comma-separated, no larger than 2 MB, and contain no more than 1,000 data rows. The header row must include `email` and `name`; `phone` is optional. Header names are not case-sensitive.

```csv theme={null}
email,name,phone
```

1. Select **Import CSV**, then **Choose CSV file** or drop the file into the upload area.
2. Review the valid and invalid row counts. Correct the source file and choose it again if important rows are invalid.
3. Optionally select a **Role** if you have role-assignment access.
4. Leave **Send invite emails** selected if new members should receive invitations. Turn it off to import accounts without sending invites now.
5. Select **Import** and review the results.

The results list members created, existing members skipped, duplicate rows, and invalid rows. If invite emails could not be sent, use **Resend invite** for each new member that still needs an invitation.

## Update a member's account

Select the row's actions menu to see the options available for that member:

* **View profile** opens the member's profile.
* **Edit** lets you update the member's name and, if you have role access, church-wide **Role**.
* **Deactivate** changes an **Active** account to **Suspended**. You can use **Reactivate** on a suspended account.
* **Resend invite** is available for **Invited** accounts.
* **Delete** from the directory is available for an invitation that has never been activated. The invite is permanently removed. For an active or suspended account, use **Deactivate** instead of this directory action.

## Review a member profile

Open a profile to review the member's account status, church-wide role, email, phone, address, date of birth, department roles, join date, last login, and Google account link.

* Select **Edit details** to update **Address** or **Date of birth**.
* Select **Change role** to assign a church-wide role or **No role**, when your access allows role changes.
* The **Activity** section, when available, lists changes made to the member. The **Logs** tab may show actions the member performed; filter it by **All**, **Success**, or **Failed**.
* Some profiles also show **Care** or other permission-gated sections. Access to those details is controlled separately; keep confidential information within the staff who are authorized to see it.
* The profile's **Delete** action permanently removes the member and cannot be undone. Follow your church's process before using it.

If you cannot find a member, change a role, or open a profile section, contact your church administrator. Available actions depend on your member-management and role access.
